Melon and Ham

(kisch food series)

It was very difficult to find prosciutto or jamon in Brazil back in the 80s. But people still wanted to be fancy and offer tapas as an amuse bouche for their dinner guests. So they used regular ham, that was rolled up and stick with a toothpick on slices of melon. I kept imagining that like a fleet of ships going to war armed only with pink meat cannons.
