Onion Matryoshka
As a traditional Jewish grandmother, my “babe” showed her love for her grandchildren through her delicious dishes of Polish origin. In most recipes, the ingredients included lots of onion.
Recently, when I was trying to reproduce his famous matzo balls soup, I noticed that the onion halves used in the recipe collapsed into domes that fit superimposed one inside the other, as in a matryoshka or babushka, the wooden dolls of eastern Europe.
